Información general, no es un consejo médico. Cada paciente es diferente. Siga siempre las indicaciones de su cirujano.
Packing for surgery recovery is not like packing for a beach trip to Miami. You will probably spend most of your first days resting indoors, wearing compression garments and moving carefully. The right suitcase makes those days easier for you and for the people helping you.
This is a practical checklist, not medical advice. Your surgeon's office may give you its own list. If anything here conflicts with what your surgeon tells you, follow your surgeon's instructions. Every patient is different.
Documents and essentials
- Photo ID or passport, and your flight details.
- Your surgeon's pre-op and post-op instructions, printed and saved on your phone.
- Your surgeon's office phone number and after-hours number.
- The address of your surgery center and of where you are staying.
- A list of your current medications and allergies, to share with your care team.
- An emergency contact back home.
- Your booking confirmations: stay, transportation and care.
Tip: keep digital copies in a shared folder so a guest or your caregiver can find them quickly.
Medications: only what your surgeon approves
Bring your usual prescriptions and anything your surgeon prescribed or approved for recovery, in their original labeled containers. Do not add vitamins, supplements or over-the-counter products unless your surgeon has approved them. If you are not sure, ask your surgeon's office before you travel.
Clothing that works over your garments
You will likely wear a compression garment under your clothes. Choose pieces that fit comfortably over it and are easy to put on without raising your arms or bending much.
- Button-front or zip-front tops.
- Loose pants or dresses with soft, elastic waists.
- Front-opening pajamas or a light robe.
- Slip-on shoes or slides, so you do not have to bend to tie laces.
- Socks for chilly air conditioning; Miami buildings can be cold inside.
- A spare garment, if your surgeon recommends one, so one can be washed while you wear the other.
Comfort items for Miami's heat and humidity
- Light, breathable fabrics like cotton and linen.
- A reusable water bottle with a straw, so drinking is easy while you rest, as your surgeon allows.
- Any pillows or positioning aids your surgeon recommends for your procedure.
- A long phone charging cable, so your phone reaches the bed.
- Lip balm and fragrance-free toiletries.
- Sunglasses and a hat for car rides and appointments. Ask your surgeon about sun exposure.
- A small bag for appointments with your instructions, ID and phone.
For the ride home from surgery
Plan your ride before surgery day. Know who is picking you up, how long the drive is and what seating position your surgeon wants you in. Ask your surgeon's office whether you should bring anything to protect the car seat. On our team, rides from surgery are part of our transportation service and of Surgery-Ready Airbnb and Care, All-Inclusive Accommodation.
Things to keep you calm and busy
- Downloaded shows, music, podcasts or audiobooks, in case the Wi-Fi is slow.
- A tablet or e-reader and headphones.
- A small notebook to write down questions for your surgeon.
- Photos or small comforts from home.
What to leave at home
- Tight jeans, bodysuits and anything that goes over your head.
- Heels and shoes with laces.
- Jewelry and valuables you will not need.
- Strong perfumes and heavily scented products.
- Supplements or products your surgeon has not approved.
- An oversized suitcase you cannot lift. You may not be able to lift heavy bags after surgery, so pack light or make sure someone can carry it.
If a guest is coming with you
If a guest, such as a family member or friend, is traveling with you, ask them to pack light too and to carry the bags. Share your surgeon's instructions with them before the trip. With Surgery-Ready Airbnb and Care, All-Inclusive Accommodation, a guest can stay with you, and the building has amenities such as a pool, a gym and a coworking space, so they have something to do while you rest.
What is already taken care of when you stay with us
With Surgery-Ready Airbnb and Care, All-Inclusive Accommodation, you do not need to pack groceries or plan meals: the stay includes 3 meals and 2 snacks daily, bed setup, washing of your faja and garments, and private 1:1 care from a Florida-licensed RN, who handles all hands-on care. If you need a specific item in the suite, just ask us before you arrive.
